In 2026, a new solo work debuts, “This is My Moment” (working title) featuring the story of a woman who has experienced the best life has to offer – a kingpin lover from the past, a jail adventure that tests her faith, a comedy career that teaches the gift of saying “Yes”, and what it means to be a diversity leader when DEI is on life support. Blending “theatricalized” essays, satiric songs and poetic prose written before, during and after Chicago’s theatre shutdown in 2020, “This is My Moment” traces the unforgettable adventures of an unapologetic, truth seeking woman rediscovering that the best moments in life are being seen in those embarrassing, unpredictable, wrong places when everybody is watching. Invited guest musicians and “truth tellers” join on select nights.
Blending original journals, weaved songs, movement, narration, and poetic prose, the performance asks the questions:
What happens when an unexpected Google meeting pops on a calendar from a comedy CEO during the pandemic while race tensions are rising high in Chicago?
How does a creative professional and adjunct professor mother make amends when inclusion and belonging is under attack?
And, what does is it really mean to belong and be included to a group, society in a nuanced, chaotic and beautiful world that is haunted by it’s turbulent past?
Curious? I hope so.
